Police: Man in wheelchair robs San Diego bank with BB gun

A BB gun-toting man in a wheelchair was arrested about five minutes after he allegedly robbed a downtown bank today, authorities reported.

The holdup at the Chase Bank branch office in the 700 block of Broadway was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The thief — a balding white-haired man who appeared to be in his 60s — fled with an undisclosed amount of stolen cash and was followed by a witness, who made a 911 call, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.

A police lieutenant spotted a man matching the description of the robber in the 700 block of F Street several minutes later and took him into custody. The suspect was carrying a BB pistol, Brown said.

The arrestee’s name was not immediately available.
