San Jacinto police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man who was found on the road following the killing, according to a news release from authorities.
The shooting occurred Wednesday in the 800 block of East Main Street after police received a report of two men fighting, the news release said.
While officers responded to the area, the news release said, additional calls were received of gunshots being heard in the area. Officials found a man lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was provided first aid until he could be transported to a local area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was contacted and assumed control of the investigation with assistance from investigators from the San Jacinto Police Department.
The name of the victim is being withheld until his family is notified.
