A man was being detained today after the SUV he was driving crashed into a house in Boyle Heights, killing his girlfriend and her infant daughter, authorities said.

The SUV struck the house on the 400 block of Mott Street at 11:42 p.m. Sunday, and ended up five to six feet inside, Devin Gales of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

A 19-year-old woman died at the scene, and her 10-day-old daughter died at a hospital, Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner’s office said. Their names were withheld, pending notification of relatives.

The 22-year-old motorist, described as the woman’s boyfriend, was taken into custody, Los Angeles police Officer Gregory Baek said. His name was not immediately released. Some other injuries were reported.

According to reports from the scene, the man and woman had argued earlier in the day.
