Bicyclist killed in Beaumont identified

The coroner’s office has released the name of the bicyclist killed in a collision last week in Beaumont.

Paul Lynn Pletcher, 70, of Yucaipa was struck by a sedan shortly after 9:10 a.m. Thursday while riding a bike along Champions Drive just west of Cherry Valley Boulevard, the coroner’s office reported.

His head was severely injured and he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. He was wearing a helmet, the coroner said.

Police have identified a Beaumont man as the driver of the sedan, but have not released his name.

No arrests were made as of late Friday, but the collision’s cause is still being investigated, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

Lynn was an amazing, most generous human being. He was warm and welcoming when I first started to work for Yucaipa Calimesa Jt. USD, as an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher. Even after he retired from the district he would come for an occasional visit to see students and teachers.
Lynn was genuine. Each person he interacted with knew he was very present in the moment and that he was sincerely interested in what was taking place in the classroom. He is a man who will be truly missed. I hope he gets to cycle on the golden streets of Heaven.

I worked for Lynn as a choir teacher at Yucaipa High School in 1983-84. It was my first public school teaching position and I came to lead a program that had a very troubled previous year. Lynn was uniformly kind and professional, supported my new ideas, and mentored me through my own beginning teacher trials. He influenced generations of students, teachers and families and will not soon be forgotten.

My condolences to the family of this man. I simply searched it up because I heard of the accident in our neighborhood. I know the idiots in the neighborhood like to speed, and not stop at stop signs. It’s a shame that it took the death of a good person to ramp up patrols in the area. There’s a school right down the street, and I see morons speeding through the front right as children go to and get out of school. In a way its a good thing a child didn’t get hit, but its a shame to see the loss of such a kind, and amiable individual. Although I didn’t know Paul at all, the 2 previous comments, and outpoor from the bicycling world for him shows the love he gave to everyone.

Your presence will be missed, even by those that didn’t know you. May your soul rest in eternal peace Mr. Pletcher.

I agree with Anonymous #1, there are some “idiots” that drive carelessly through the neighborhood. But in rare cases incidents like this are simply accidents. This being one of them. I’m not speaking on behalf of the driver or their Family. but I know personally that they are extremely devistated by this incident. I’m sure words could not express the amount of sorrow they have for Mr Pletcher’s family and friends.

I have read alot of what has been posted about Mr. Pletcher, he seemed to be a Wonderful man and was loved by many. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Lynn was simply the most kind and generous man that I have ever known. I knew him from our time together in the YCJUSD. He was my neighbor in Stanley Ranch and he would always brighten my day with a wave when he rode by.
