Authorities are searching for a driver who rammed his pickup into a Border Patrol vehicle in Murrieta, injuring the agent, according to a Murrieta Police Department news release.
The incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday as the agent, who was not identified, tried to stop an Ford F250 as they traveled south on Calle Del Oso Oro approaching Via Moreno, the news release said. The driver of the Ford did not stop for the lights and siren and the agent drove up alongside the passenger side of the pickup.
The driver of the Ford F250 deliberately veered his vehicle into the Border Patrol unit, striking it and causing both vehicles to lose control, police said. The Ford ended up on the sidewalk.
Both the driver and passenger of the Ford ran and the agent was able to catch the passenger, the news release said. After extensive searches by police dogs, the driver was unable to be located.
The passenger was taken to the Border Patrol station for processing and deportation proceedings. The Border Patrol agent was treated at Rancho Springs Hospital for a minor injury to his leg.
