A motorist was seriously injured today in a collision between a sport utility vehicle and a compact car on the outskirts of Lake Elsinore.
The accident on Highway 74, near Meadowbrook Avenue, just north of the city, happened shortly after 10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a GMC Yukon collided with a red Mazda sedan, injuring the man at the wheel of the smaller vehicle, who was transported to a hospital for treatment after firefighters extricated him from the Mazda, the CHP said.
The SUV driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
There was no immediate word on what triggered the crash.
