A 49-year-old Pacific Northwest man wanted on charges of raping a child was behind bars in San Diego today following his arrest at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Wesley Armstead of Tacoma, Wash., was a passenger in a 1996 Cadillac that entered San Ysidro Port of Entry late Monday night, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
While processing the car and its occupants, a federal inspector determined that Armstead was the subject of an outstanding felony warrant charging him with having sex with a minor, officials said.
The suspect was booked into San Diego Central Jail to await extradition back to his home state.
