Coroner: No positive ID yet of man's body found near Ocean Beach pier

Authorities hoped to identify the body of a man found in the water near the Ocean Beach pier through his fingerprints.

The man’s body was found around 11:30 p.m. Friday, said San Diego Lifeguard Lt. Nick Lerma.

An injured man found a short time later in the water near the pier is believed to be a friend of the man who died. He was hospitalized in unknown condition, police said.

Police want to know what the men were doing in the water that time of night, said San Diego Police Officer Frank Cali.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is using the dead man’s fingerprints in an attempt to positively identify him.
