UPDATE: 11:42 a.m.
California Highway Patrol officers began escorting groups of vehicles today along the Grapevine section of the Golden State (5) Freeway, which had been closed since Sunday afternoon because of the latest winter storm.
The escorts began about 11:15 a.m., and were to continue until the freeway could be reopened without restriction, Villalobos said.
Original story:
The Golden State (5) Freeway remained closed this morning between Parker Road in Castaic and Grapevine Road in Kern County due to the latest winter storm, authorities said.
The roadway was closed Sunday afternoon, stranding numerous motorists, and the closure was continuing after 9 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.
About 8 this morning, a wind advisory was issued for a section of the westbound Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in the Granada Hills and Chatsworth areas west of the San Diego (405) Freeway, the CHP reported. Travel was not recommended along that stretch of the freeway for campers, trailers or “high profile” vehicles such as large trucks.
