The cruise ship that caught fire off the coast of Baja California two months ago is scheduled to leave San Diego today for further repairs in San Francisco.
A fire in the engine room of the 952-foot Carnival Splendor on Nov. 9 stranded about 4,000 passengers on the first leg of a seven-day cruise to the Mexican Riviera.
The Long Beach-based ship was towed into San Diego Bay three days later, and is docked at the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal.
Enough repairs were made to the engines to allow the Carnival Splendor to cruise under its own power. However, two tugboats will accompany the vessel on the multi-day trip, just in case, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
