President Barack Obama signed a declaration Wednesday that will make disaster relief funds available in Riverside County and other parts of the state hard-hit by December’s rain.
The signing frees up federal funds for flood-related damage in Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Kern, King and Inyo counties between Dec. 17 and Jan. 4.
Riverside County authorities can now seek federal disaster-relief funds administered by the state to fix roads and other county property damaged in the rainstorms.
Laguna Beach, inundated by a Dec. 22 downpour, tallied about $23 million in damage, and flooding and mudslides in San Bernardino County were estimated to have caused $17 million in damage.
