Authorities looking to ID driver in Escondido hit-and-run

Authorities asked the public today for help in identifying the driver of a truck involved in a hit-and-run accident that severely injured a man trying to cross a North County road.

The white full-size pickup was towing a black flatbed trailer when it hit the 60-year-old pedestrian on North Nutmeg Street in Escondido about 5:45 p.m. Friday, according to police.

The victim was hospitalized in “very serious” condition, Lt. Tom Albergo said.

Investigators haven’t got a description of the driver, who fled the scene of the crash south of Fountain Place before patrol personnel and medics arrived.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Officer Michael Guerrero at 760-839-4470.
