Reward announced to help find hit-and-run driver who killed Iggy Pop's drummer in Cathedral City

The ex-wife of the Iggy Pop’s drummer will announce a $13,000 reward Saturday Feb. 19 for information leading to the hit-and-run driver who killed her former husband, Alexander Kirst.

Kirst, who also drummed for The Nymphs, was fatally struck shortly before midnight Jan. 13 on Date Palm Drive near the Date Palm Country Club.

The suspect, based on witness descriptions, was driving a white or light- colored, 2000-2006 model Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon.
“The police department is supportive of any and all efforts to identify and locate the person(s) responsible for this tragedy,” Cathedral City police Lt. Chuck Robinson said.

Kirst, a part-time desert resident, was walking to get a pack of cigarettes when he was struck. Whoever spotted his body told police that it appeared someone had passed out along the road, but police determined Kirst was struck by a sport utility vehicle.
