Sprinkler system credited with slowing spread of fire in Perris commercial building

A sprinkler system is being credited with reducing the damage caused to a Perris commercial building when a fire broke out, according to a posting on the Calfire website.

The fire at the building at 3722 North Redlands Boulevard was reported at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, Calfire reported on its website. There were no injuries.

The cause is listed as electrical and 32 firefighters were assigned to the blaze, Calfire said.

The loss was estimated at $10,000 to merchandise at the Whirlpool Distribution Center.

The first arriving engine company reported a large, concrete building charged with smoke and the incident resulted fire and water damage to three rows of appliance merchandise, Calfire said. Activation of the building’s fire sprinkler system was instrumental in containing the fire to the affected area.
