A Moreno Valley gang member was charged Wednesday with multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child and other felonies for allegedly joining seven youths in the gang rape of an 11-year-old girl in a park restroom.
Michael Bobby Devon Sykes, 19, was slated to be arraigned this afternoon on four counts of aggravated sexual assault, one count each of kidnapping and gang activity, as well as numerous sentence-enhancing allegations of committing a violent felony for the benefit of a criminal street gang in connection with the March 10 attack.
Sykes was arrested by Moreno Valley police around noon Monday at a residence in Moreno Valley, said Cpl. Courtney Donowho with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities believed Sykes had fled to the Los Angeles area after the incident, which six other teens allegedly participated in by corralling the victim into a park restroom. The girl, whose name was not released, was lured into a bathroom at Victoriano Park in the 25700 block of Los Cabos Drive, near Los Cabos Drive and Iris Avenue.
The suspects, all part of a Moreno Valley street gang, South Side Mafia, allegedly took turns assaulting her that night, over an undisclosed period of time.
It was not immediately clear whether the girl knew the defendant or any of the other gang members, who were being held at Riverside Juvenile Hall.
Sykes was being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.

Michael Sykes & his gang give a bad name to all blacks in Mo Valley. They are “Sodomites & Child Molesters”. Who would want to join the South Side Mafia? We need these Compton people to go back where they came from. Let L.A. Cty deal with them. They come to Riverside because they know it is easy to get welfare, food stamps and medical and free child care than it is in L.A. County. In the mean time they are destroying Moreno Valley Ranch homes, which is where they all reside and where the 11 yr old was raped. In 2004, these home were worth minimum of $500,000.00. Now they are under $200,000.00 and being rented by Section 8 people who are destroying these beautiful homes. We are “Infested by low lives”. It is only going to get worse.
