“American Idol” announced its audition dates and a stop includes San Diego, the first visit in four years.

The local auditions will take place on July 8 at Petco Park, with registration over the two preceding days. Auditions for the program last took place in San Diego in 2007 at Qualcomm Stadium.
The audition tour begins June 28 in St. Louis. Stops will also be made in Portland, Pittsburgh, Charleston, S.C., and Houston.
Prospective contestants need to be between 15 and 28 as of June 26, 2011, and prove they are eligible to work in the United States. They also cannot have recording or other specific entertainment contracts, or any connection with Fox Television or a group of firms known as the 19 Companies.
