Car crashes into Panorama City; both catch fire

A suspected drunken driver who crashed a car into a Panorama City home, setting both on fire early Saturday, remained at large.

No one was injured in the roughly 4:10 a.m. accident at 7818 Ranchito Ave., but the driver apparently walked away from the mess, Los Angeles police with the Valley Traffic Division said.

A 1988 Oldsmobile crashed through some glass and came to rest in the living room of the home, and moments later the car burst into flames, causing extensive damage to at least two rooms before firefighters doused the blaze, according to police and reports from the scene.

A man was home at the time, but he got out uninjured.

“It (the car) struck something inside the house. The vehicle melted inside the house. The house caught on fire,” Sgt. David Mascarenas of the traffic unit said.
