Murrieta man dies in head-on collision near Santa Rosa Plateau

An 84-year-old Murrieta man died late Wednesday night in a head-on collision near the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve, according the Riverside County Coroner’s office.

Richard Johnson was taken to an area hospital after the accident but died shortly after, according to Calfire.

Emergency personnel were called out to the 38900 block of Clinton Keith Road at 8:50 p.m. Firefighters arrived and found a truck had crossed the lines and collided into an oncoming sedan driven by Johnson, according to a Calfire news release.

Both drivers were trapped and had to be cut out of the wreckage.

Johnson died 40 minutes after the collision.
