A man wanted on a parole violation evaded capture after leading police on a 20-minute car chase, but the driver of his getaway car was eventually arrested Saturday, authorities said.
The pursuit began at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Harrison Street in Thermal when police learned Jose Tinoco, 34, of Indio, might be in the area, The Desert Sun reported.
Tinoco was believed to be a passenger in a black Honda Civic, which was followed by police into Coachella, then to the intersection of Shady Lane and Valley, when Tinoco and a second unidentified male got out of the car and fled on foot. Officers were unable to find the two men.
The driver of the Civic continued but crashed into a parked vehicle at Arabia and Tripoli streets in Coachella and was captured by police.
Coachella Valley Gang Task Force Cmdr. Ken Bambrick identified the driver as Arturo Alcocer, 21, of Indio. Alcocer was taken to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, then to the Riverside County Jail in Indio where he is being held on charges that include suspicion of resisting arrest and violating a gang injunction.
Tinoco is the suspect in an assault with a deadly weapon case, Bambrick said.
