A car slammed into a pole on Pacific Coast Highway today and burst into flames, killing a man and injuring six other people, three critically, authorities said.
The crash in the 16300 block of West Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades was reported at 12:06 a.m., said Cecil Manresa of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Witnesses said the car was a Ford Focus.
Firefighters pronounced a 30-year-old man dead at the scene, Manresa said, adding that three people were hospitalized in critical condition – the 27-year-old woman who was driving the car, an 18-year-old woman and a year-old boy.
Three girls — ages 5, 10 and 13 — suffered minor injuries, he said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
