Fawcett’s son charged with possession of controlled substance and firearm

Redmond O’Neal, the 26-year-old son of actors Ryan O’Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett, was charged Thursday with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon.

O’Neal pleaded not guilty to the two felonies, which stem from a traffic stop on Tuesday. He was being held without bail since he is on probation from his no contest plea to a felony drug charge linked to his 2009 arrest in a county jail parking lot in Castaic, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

O’Neal was ordered to return to the Airport Branch Courthouse on Aug. 24 for a probation violation hearing and to get a date for a preliminary hearing.

In his latest run-in with the law, he allegedly ran a red light while turning his 2010 Nissan Altima from northbound Lincoln Boulevard onto Olympic Boulevard around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Sgt. Richard Lewis of the Santa Monica Police Department said O’Neal admitted to officers he was on probation and consented to a search of his car, during which officers found heroin and marijuana.

Last August, O’Neal graduated from a drug court program for a pair of drug-possession cases — one involving possession of heroin and methamphetamine and the other involving possession of methamphetamine.
