“Swing Away for MDA” benefit starts in Beaumont Saturday

Softball enthusiasts are taking to the field in Beaumont Saturday for a tournament to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The two-day “Swing Away for MDA” competition will include a series of slow-pitch games for teams of men, women and coed teams.

The fourth annual event, being held at Noble Creek Park, is slated to get under way at noon Saturday and conclude around 11 p.m. The winning teams will return Sunday for another series of games, whittling down the contestants until the two teams still standing in each class square off for a championship round, according to organizers.

Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers.

A home run derby is planned at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Entry fees are $275 per team, and all the proceeds will go to “Jerry’s Kids.”
