Ten-year-old “Daredevil” knows firsthand that love is blind, and Riverside County Animal Services is hoping her new owner believes the same.

The blind fuzzy feline, nicknamed Daredevil after the Marvel Comics superhero, is anxiously waiting with paws wide open for a new family after her long-time owner passed away last month.
Riverside County Department of Animal Services has been caring for the cat at the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter. After going unclaimed by family members, it was decided to put the feline up for adoption since she was well taken care of and probably loved tremendously by her owner, Animal Services spokesman John Welsh said.
Despite Daredevil’s blindness, she is fearless, hears well and struts her stuff like any other cat.
Staff at the shelter said Daredevil’s ideal home would be in a loving environment where she could receive the same amount of affection she did with her previous owner.
“Everyone could tell that this little cat got so much affection. We want the new pet parent to provide that same level of love,” Registered Veterinary Technician Eileen Sanders said.
Jaclyn Schart, a supervising animal care technician at the shelter, said Daredevil would even make for the perfect therapeutic pet.
“She could be a therapy cat for service groups that assist blind youngsters,” Schart said. “She shows absolutely no inhibition. It’s wonderful.”
Adoption applications for Daredevil will be reviewed by shelter staff to ensure she is placed with the right family. Daredevil’s animal ID number is A-891880. And because the shelter is holding a “Five-Dollar Fuzz Ball” adoption special through the end of October, Daredevil’s adoption cost is only $5.
Daredevil is on display in the front lobby of the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley, 6851 Van Buren Blvd.
“It’s very sad when a pet owner dies and animals are left behind with no immediate family members, Animal Shelter Director Robert Miller said. “And while this story is very sad, we are all warmed by the fact that this cat clearly received a lot of great care.”
