The 3-month-old domestic long-haired female was spotted by a motorist around 2 p.m. along the eastside of the freeway near Van Buren Boulevard, said John Welsh, spokesman for Riverside County Animal Services.

Officer Alanna Esch quickly responded to the call, fearing the kitten would fall off the ledge and be struck by traffic, Welsh said.

Esch was able to spot the kitten’s tail hanging over a ledge along the right shoulder.

“When she approached the kitty, it did try to bolt,” Welsh said, but was able to scoop her up with her net.

The kitten was transported to the Western Riverside County Animal Shelter.

Welsh said the kitten had a small injury to her pelvic bone but was expected to recover.

It was not immediately available when the kitten would be up for adoption.
