“This is the third year for our Boys & Girls Club Idol event. Originally, it was open to just Boys & Girls Clubs members to sing and dance. This year we’ve limited it strictly to singing, and (the competition) is open to the public,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County board member Steve Amante.
The singing competition draws upon the excitement and spirit of Fox’s “American Idol” reality TV show sensation.
Finalists include:
6-9 year olds
Mackenzie O’Coyne
Kira Kane
Julia Bembenek
Olivia Rodrigo
Lilah Vener
10-13 year olds
Anatalia Villaranda

Taryn Murphy
Leon Guico
14-18 year olds

According to Amante, over 180 area youth auditioned to be part of the “American Idol”-themed contest. That number was narrowed down to 37 semifinalists in a competition that took place Aug. 28 at the Murrieta Community Center.
Proceeds from the event, including a fundraising competition where friends and family can vote for their favorite audition online, benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County.
“We are expecting a large turnout this year and are tremendously excited for the community to come together for our talented youth” said Chief Executive Officer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County Maryann Edwards, in a released statement.
