Riverside County desert cities to heat up; officials issue heat warning, open cool centers

While temperatures will linger in the low to mid 90s over the next few days in Southwest Riverside, highs in desert cities and surrounding areas of Riverside County are expected to climb, prompting health officials to issue a heat warning and open cool centers for the remainder of the week.

The warning was issued Tuesday and will remain in effect through Friday, officials from the Community Action Partnership of Riverside County said.

Children and the elderly are among those that can be severely affected by the heat and are encouraged to visit area cool centers, officials said.

“Cool centers provide snacks and water, in addition to activities and resource information,” officials said.

For a list of cool centers visit www.rivcohealthdata.org or call 888-636-8676.

Cool centers are free services offered by the Community Action Partnership of Riverside County, the Riverside County Department of Public Health, Riverside County Fire Department, Community Connect and the American Red Cross.
