Frykman, who has been with the county’s agency since February 2007, submitted a short letter thanking everyone for the time they worked together, and stating he would resign at the end of the work day Thursday, said county spokesman Ray Smith Thursday evening by phone.

Smith did not state the reasons behind Frykman’s resignation.

A sexual harassment lawsuit was filed April 27 against Frykman and Riverside County by a former First 5 Riverside employee, accusing Frykman of gender discrimination, retaliation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Discussions on how to proceed with filling Frykman’s post will take place Tuesday with Riverside County Board of Supervisors in a closed session, Smith said.

Frykman previously served as the Health Officer for San Bernardino County Department of Public Health from March 2004 and as Interim Public Health Director in July 2006. He also served as Chief of Disease Control & Prevention since June 2001.
