A body was found today in the Whitewater River near Palm Springs, a day after a woman went missing while inner-tubing in the river with family and friends, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Deputy Angel Ramos said authorities had not yet identified the body and could not confirm whether it was the same woman.
He said Palm Springs police responded to a possible drowning in the river shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday.
“The person jumped into the Whitewater River with an inner tube device and goes under and doesn’t come back up,” he said.
Palm Springs police began searching for the woman, and sheriff’s search- and-rescue teams joined the search around 8:45 p.m. when it was determined to be in their jurisdiction, Ramos said.
