An 18-year-old wanted for murder and burglary was arrested in Mexico and extradited to Riverside County to face justice, Indio police said.
Julian Palomino Lopez is suspected in the Nov. 30, 2009, murder of Carlos Garcia of Indio, who was gunned down near John Nobles Avenue and Monroe Street, according to Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron.
After the shooting, Lopez — a U.S. citizen — fled to Mexico and was living in Mexicali when he was arrested by Mexican authorities, Guitron said.
Lopez was then turned over to detectives in Calexico, Calif., who held him for Riverside County authorities, who took custody of him on Thursday.
Lopez was denied bail and locked up on charges of murder, burglary and two misdemeanors, according to jail records. Arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
