Whitewater: One killed in rollover accident near Palm Springs

WHITEWATER: One person was killed and another injured today in a crash on Interstate 10 near Palm Springs, a county fire spokeswoman said.

Firefighters had to cut the occupants out of a minivan, which had rolled onto its side on westbound I-10, east of Whitewater Road around 10:20 a.m., Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman, Tia Wilson said.

One person was unconscious and had a head laceration when firefighters arrived, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The dispatcher said another vehicle was involved, but it’s not clear if anyone in that vehicle was injured.

The cause of the crash was under investigation and it was not reported if the local high wind warnings contributed to the accident.

High winds in that area were reported, with gusts up to 55 mph expected, according to the National Weather Service. A high-wind warning is in effect until 2 p.m. Friday.
