They were sequestered in the kitchen, sampling some of the Inland Empires’ finest homemade holiday tamales.
They also were judging them for top honors in the first-annual Tamale Festival, benefiting the Village Youth Organization.
The winners included Maxi-Foods for chicharones (pork rinds) stuffed tamales; El Protector with their bean- and cheese-infused masa offering; and the YMCA for a spicy green-chili tasty, prepared by RPD officer Neely Nakamura.
The Village Youth Organization centers its attention on neighborhood youth, providing guidance by community and police mentors. The motto of the mentors is “It takes a Village to raise a child.”
Additional information about the program may be obtained by contacting the Community Services Bureau of the Riverside Police Department.
