Hundreds gathered at Wilson Creek Winery in support of local family

It’s often difficult to find light in dark times. But, that is exactly what the Hermanns are striving to do after friends gathered to support the Temecula family at Wilson Creek Winery last month.

“It was amazing. It was a full house. People we have never met before came out to the event. We literally had a receiving line of guests,” Julia Hermann said.

Julia’s husband Jim suffered a fractured neck and spine in a biking accident on Aug. 28. Since that time, friends and family have been rallying to offer support — both financial and emotional.

Julia said that roughly $15,000 was raised at the Nov. 30 event that included performances by headliners from Hollywood’s Magic Castle and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” comedian Willie Barcena.

All of the monies collected are already invested in renovations to the make the Hermanns’ Temecula home wheelchair accessible.

“We’re making modifications to the home, the driveway, the door frames,” said Julia, adding that the bills are starting to roll in and questions still remain about the future.

“We’re hoping that in two to three years, when Jim is fully recovered, to pay it forward. Right now, it’s hard to say where we’re going to be. We’re taking things one day at a time,” Julia said.

Jim Hermann said that Wilson Creek Winery event was overwhelming.

“There were so many people there we didn’t even know that I had trouble keeping track of what was going on,” said Jim, adding that he continues to work hard at a fully recovery through physical therapy.

Said Jim: “I will find a way to be active.”
