A 44-year-old La Quinta man was arrested today on suspicion of driving under the influence after his Chevy Tahoe slammed into a Jeep Cherokee parked in front of a residence in Cathedral City, a police department spokesman said.
Robert Jaime Martinez was arrested on suspicion of driving under influence of alcohol and/or drugs and booked into the Cathedral City Jail, Cathedral City police Sgt. Corwin de Veas said.
The crash occurred about 6:10 a.m. in the 68800 block of Vista Chino Drive, according de Veas.
“The Chevy driver was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Vista Chino approaching Date Palm Drive when it struck the Jeep, which was legally parked and unoccupied,” de Veas said.
“The driver initially told officers he was the victim of a hit-and-run, but there was no evidence of another vehicle on the roadway at the time of the collision.”
There were no injuries to Martinez or any bystanders, he said.
