Police seek man who tried to kidnap Desert Hot Springs woman

Police today sought one of two men who tried to kidnap a Desert Hot Springs woman, a police sergeant said.

Christopher Spears, 48, of Cathedral City, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Monday near the 66700 block of Two Bunch Palms Trail, and his accomplice was still at large, Desert Hot Springs police Sgt. Brian Link said today.

Police received a “frantic” call from a woman, saying two men tried to kidnap her near Two Bunch Palms and Ocotillo Road about 8 p.m., Link said.

“The victim told police two black adult men had followed her as she walked home, and one of the men attempted to grab and force her into their vehicle,” Link said.

About 20 minutes later, police found a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, and Spears, the lone driver, was arrested.

He was booked at Larry D. Smith jail in Banning on suspicion of attempted kidnapping. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail and expected to be arraigned Thursday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.

The second suspect was described as a thin black man in his 20s, as tall as 6 feet 1 inches, in black clothes. Link did not say if the men knew the woman.

Anyone with more information was asked to call the Desert Hot Springs police at 760-329-6411.

What do you think that poor guy might be going through – being accused of something he didn’t do. Either that girl lied, or she is mistaken about who it was. That man was in town on business – I know for a fact. You go to hell for lying – and for falsely accusing someone. Plus, she kept changing her story. Most people don’t know that the city of Desert Hot Springs used to get paid to parole child molesters and sex offenders to their town. What has resulted, is a disproportionate number of sexual predators living in Desert Hot Springs. I you don’t believe me – check the Megan’s Law map yourself. There has also been a rash of sexual assaults on women in the general area in DHS a block away. The perpetrator is a Mexican guy who wears a hoody. He is still at large – and still assaulting women. The police are desperate to pin this stuff on someone. So if they can’t find the real bad guy – they must figure that someone caught is better than no one caught. These predators are coming from within DHS itself. We don’t have to look to other towns’ residents for the sexual assaults that happen in DHS. Their wonderful city government made sure of that years ago.
