Update 9:10 a.m. Dec. 30: The Riverside County Coroner’s office has identified the man shot and killed on Dec. 29 as Mark Anthony Trujillo, 23, of Perris.
Original: Perris Police Department officials responded to a call from the parents of a suicidal man just before 7 a.m. on Dec. 29 at the 350 block of East San Jacinto Avenue in Perris.
According to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report, when officers arrived, they learned from the family that a 23-year-old man who had attempted suicide by cutting himself was armed with a knife and behaving erratically.
Despite attempts to talk with the man, he remained uncooperative and refused to follow officers’ orders, the report said.
Officers fired on the man, wounding him, when he charged towards the officers with the knife.
According the Riverside County Sheriff’s report, officers provided medical assistance and also called Cal-Fire and American Medical Response paramedics to render aid.
The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. None of the officers suffered life-threatening injuries.
The name of the man was not released.
All of the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy.

What happened to just wounding without killing. This young man needed medical or mental help. This seems like a good time to use a stun gun.
And should have call an ambulance and put the kid on a 51/50 watch.
This should not be considered a suicide by police. Are all police trained to shoot to kill?
The Parents of Mark Anthony Trujillo called 911 to get their son medical attention, what ever happen to protecting the citizens??? instead the parents got thrown out of their own home, and minutes later their son had been shot by the Sheriffs department…Justice needs to be served….at the end the truth should be release….
I heard bad news about my boo,I knew her mom and dad, and his oldest brother, unforntely never meet him and heard of him from them. I didnt know was suicidal sounds to me cops or PPD need to less harm from this kid. so tragic i used to live in this place where got shot. and killed hope justice be service to this guy I will pray for his family i know them we used be neighbors.=(.
