Human trafficking the focus of upcoming RivCo forum

A forum aimed at raising awareness about human trafficking and sexual exploitation will be held Jan. 19 at the Riverside County Administrative Center in downtown Riverside, it was recently announced.

The forum will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the Board of Supervisors meeting chambers, located at 4080 Lemon St. in downtown Riverside.

Attendees will learn about activity in Riverside County involving human trafficking, laborer trafficking, and trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Information also will be available about how individuals can get involved in efforts to prevent human trafficking.

Scheduled to participate in the discussion are Riverside County sheriff’s Lt. Ernie Baker; Deputy District Attorney Gerald Fineman; Opal Singleton of Million Kids, a group that combats human trafficking; and Jennifer O’Farrell of Operation Safehouse, a teen shelter for youth in crisis throughout Riverside County.

The forum is a collaboration among the County of Riverside Commission for Women, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and Operation Safehouse.
