Anaheim man suspected in intentional hit-and-run death

An Anaheim man suspected of intentionally killing a 68-year-old Corona resident in a weekend hit-and-run crash was arrested today and booked on suspicion of murder.

Anthony Ray Lopez, 23, was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside this morning for allegedly running over Herman Armando Villalobos.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Villalobos was riding his bike in the 3700 block of Windsong Street in Home Gardens around 4:40 p.m. Sunday when the suspect allegedly plowed into him on purpose, then fled.

California Highway Patrol officers were first on the scene and discovered the victim lying in the street, said sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Reno.

Villalobos was pronounced dead moments later by paramedics.

Sheriff’s detectives from the Jurupa Valley station took over the investigation, and based on witnesses’ statements and other evidence, arrested Lopez, the sergeant said.

A motive for his alleged actions was not disclosed.

Lopez was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
