San Diego County Fair earns praise and top awards

The San Diego County Fair was a top award winner at the Western Fairs Association (WFA) Convention and Trade Show held Jan. 8-11 in Anaheim.

The 2011 Fair received a total of 39 awards, including 17 first-place honors.

WFA is a non-profit trade association serving the Fair industry in the Western United States and Canada.

“The San Diego County Fair continues to be a leader in the fair industry and stays true to the mission of the 22nd District Agricultural Association,” said General Manager /CEO of the 22nd District Agricultural Association, Timothy J. Fennell in a released statement.

“Over the years we have become an integral part of San Diego County by supporting agriculture and educational activities such as 4-H, FFA, Grange and other youth development programs and we will continue to do so in 2012. And, as in years past, we will step up to the plate to champion the long and fruitful history of the San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds,” Fennell said.

The 2011 WFA first-place awards were presented to the San Diego County Fair in the following categories:

• Marketing Campaign – Generational

• Outdoor Advertising

• Newsletter/E-blast – Printed

• Newsletter/E-blast – Electronic

• Newsletter/E-blast – E-blast

• Photo of an Unusual Entry

• America’s Funniest Fair Video

• Creative Fair Ribbon

• Fair Sponsorship

• Best New Idea This Year – Exhibits

• Best New Idea This Year – Maintenance

• Best New Idea This Year – Service Member Partnership

• New Featured Event, Exhibit or Program

• New Conservation Program/Being Green

• New Innovative Use of Technology

• Competitive Exhibit Handbook

The 2011 San Diego County Fair also received 20 awards from The International Association of Fairs and Expositions for outstanding Agricultural and Competitive programs at the IAFE Convention and Trade Show held Nov. 28 to Dec. 1, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In addition to the 20 IAFE awards, the 2011 San Diego County Fair also won two special awards: The Best of Division Award for Fairs with attendance of more than 1 million and The Excellence in Competitive Exhibits Award for Fairs with attendance of more than 1 million.

The San Diego County Fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County and the sixth largest fair in the United States, drawing more than 1.4 million visitors annually.

The theme for the 2012 San Diego County Fair will take Fair fans “Out Of This World” to the stars, planets and beyond for 24 days. The 2012 San Diego County Fair will be open June 8 to July 4. The Fair will be closed the first three Mondays June 11, 18 and 25.
