Riverside County Animal Services employees are set to celebrate the expected rain on Tuesday by splashing, er, slashing prices on pet adoptions, it was recently announced.

Residents can adopt a dog on Tuesday for $20 and a cat for $15 – as long as they remember to say the phrase, “Boy, it’s raining cats and dogs!”
Dog adoptions are normally $105, so the $20 fee is a pretty decent discount, according to Animal Services Director Robert Miller. Cat adoption fees are already at a super-friendly, super-low $15, and that price will be the same during the “rainy-day” special promotion.
The special promotion will continue throughout the year – as long as the day is actually a rainy day. Pet adopters must also remember to say the magical phrase to earn the special rate.
The special will be honored at the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter, located at 6851 Van Buren Blvd, Jurupa Valley.
The rate will also be honored at the county’s Blythe Animal Shelter and the county’s desert shelter in Thousand Palms, the Coachella Valley Animal Campus, located at 72-050 Pet Land Place, Thousand Palms.
“Even if the anticipated Tuesday storm doesn’t quite reach the Coachella Valley, or Blythe, there’s a chance folks might have fought through some of the inclement weather to reach us,” Miller said in a released statement. “Of course, we won’t check their car tires for proof of puddles.”
Miller said that the silly “raining cats-and-dogs” cliché phrase has been around so long. “So why not turn it into something fun on a day many consider wet and miserable? Plus, we always tend to experience low attendance at our shelters during bad-weather days. This was one way to generate, we can only hope, a few more adoptions that we normally wouldn’t get.”
The $20 dog adoptions and $15 cat adoptions also include a microchip and the pets’ vaccinations and spay or neuter surgery. A $16 dog license fee for unincorporated areas of Riverside County is not included.
