Forum planned to address traffic jam on I-10

Assemblymen Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, and Manuel Perez, D-Coachella, will host an Interstate 10 public forum today with Caltrans and California Highway Patrol officials.

Caltrans District 8 Director Ray Wolfe is expected to attend the forum at Rancho Mirage Public Library, which will focus on the Feb. 12 traffic jam on the westbound I-10 that stretched from Banning to Palm Springs.

The problem is believed to have developed when Caltrans was repairing slabs of concrete on Interstate 10 during an overnight project but dug up too much freeway.

Wolfe will speak about the current investigation and “what measures are being taken to ensure this type of situation does not occur in the future on any state highways in Riverside and San Bernardino area,” according to a statement from Nestande’s office.

To RSVP or for more information, contact Nestande’s Palm Desert office at 760-674-0164.
