Exactly 108 local singers — old, young, amateur, professional, including Riverside’s Daniel Rosa who performed on “The Voice” this season — came out to Lake Elsinore’s Diamond Stadium Saturday morning to tackle “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the free and open auditions.
There were smiles, shaky hands, looks of disappointment and tears as singers either dominated or were gobbled up by the intimidating song.
Selected vocalists, who will be notified via email, will be able to sing the anthem before a Lake Elsinore Storm home game this season.
“We were impressed by the level of talent that showed up for auditions at the stadium today,” said Tracy Kessman, Storm assistant general manager.
Kessman said she received 20 to 30 calls and emails this week from singers who could not make Saturday’s audition, so a second open audition will be held at the stadium in the near future.
A date and time will be announced.
