The Republican Party of San Diego County endorsed City Councilman Carl DeMaio in the city’s mayoral race.
DeMaio clinched the party’s endorsement Saturday over other major republican candidates, county District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego, officials said.
“I appreciate the endorsement of the Republican Party and look forward to earning the support of Democrats and Independent voters who understand the fundamental need for reform at City Hall,” DeMaio said.
Officials said DeMaio was chosen for his track record of advocating for taxpayer centered reform and will benefit from the party’s volunteer base and financial resources.
“The vote was a reflection of growing grassroots enthusiasm for DeMaio, and enables us to advance our message of fiscal reform in a unified manner,” said Tony Krvaric, party chairman.
