In just six short years, the San Diego International Beer Competition and Festival has become one of the largest in the country, offering more than 150 breweries and 350 beers from around the world.
The festival, part of the 2012 San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons/Sav-on, is set for June 22-24.
The San Diego International Beer Competition is open to licensed breweries to compete with their beers. Amateur adult brewmasters can compete in the Homebrew Competition. Both professional and home brewers can go to www.sdfair.com/beer to enter and to see a complete listing of style guidelines.
The entry deadline for the professional competition is April 13. Judging is in a closed session May 19.

In the 2011 competition, The Best of Show was Poor Man’s IPA beer made by Pizza Port of Carlsbad, California. This is the third year in a row that Pizza Port has taken the top honors.
San Diego County breweries won nine of the 29 gold medals. Other gold medals went to breweries from other parts of California (4), Oregon (2), Utah, Colorado and Washington (1 each), England (3), Germany (2), and Austria, Belgium, Australia, Scotland, Holland and France (1 each).
The summer of 2012 will take San Diego County Fair fans “Out Of This World” to the stars, planets and beyond. Every day at the Fair will be filled with discovery and mystery of the outer limits. The Fair will explore man’s history and fascination with space and space travel starting with the ancient astronomers, to the NASA program and the future of space exploration.
Is anyone out there? The Theme exhibit will delve into the unexplained and unexplored. Enter the realm of science fiction, UFOs and other evidence of life beyond earth. Universe Invited!
The 2012 San Diego County Fair will run for 24 days opening Friday, June 8, to Wednesday, July 4. The Fair will be closed Mondays except July 2.
Gates open daily at 11 a.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10 a.m., Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday July 2. Admission is $13 for adults; $7 for ages 6-12 and 62 and older; free for ages 5 and younger.
