Man charged with attemped murder after recent Indio shooting

A man wounded in a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting in Indio remained hospitalized today, and his alleged assailant was jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

Tadeo Jaime Garcia, 21, of Indio was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and other felonies stemming from the shooting, which occurred about 4 p.m. Friday at Avenue 46 and Duquesne Street.

The victim, a man in his late 20s whose named was not released, is listed in critical but stable condition at Desert Regional Medical Center, Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.

The victim was driving a Ford F-150 pickup when he was shot more than once in the upper body, Guitron said. It’s unclear why he was targeted, police said.

The following day, officers stopped a red Ford sport utility vehicle, which matched witnesses’ description of the suspect’s car, in the 81-700 block of Santa Barbara Street, and arrested Garcia, he said.

They found a handgun in the vehicle with bullets in the chamber that matched casings found at the crime scene, he said.

In addition to attempted murder, Garcia is charged with shooting at a vehicle, participating in a criminal street gang and discharging a firearm in a school zone.

He is due back in court April 5 for a felony settlement conference, according to court records.
