A man who allegedly threw a knife at his father at their Encanto home today refused to surrender to arriving officers, prompting a standoff that ended with the suspect’s arrest nearly 90 minutes later.
The non-injury alleged assault in the 1300 block of Vinca Way was reported shortly before 6 a.m., according to San Diego police.
After officers arrived, the older man exited the house, but his son, 37-year-old Aristoteles Tesoro Afan Jr., refused to come outside, SDPD Detective Gary Hassen said.
The stalemate continued until about 7:20 a.m., when police entered the residence and arrested Afan without incident. He was booked into county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and was being held on $30,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
It was unclear what prompted Afan’s alleged violence, Hassen said.
