Man robbed at gunpoint of cell phone in Palm Springs

Two armed teenagers with a gun robbed a motorist who was getting out of his car in Palm Springs and got away with his cell phone, a police spokesman said today.

The robbery occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of West San Rafael Drive, according to Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff.

“The victim reported that he was exiting his car when the two suspects, armed with handguns, approached him and demanded the victim’s money and keys,” Kovaleff said. “They only took the victim’s cellphone and fled on foot northbound from the location.”

Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the robbers, he said.

The victim described the suspects as two black males, each 16-18-years-old, and about 5-feet-7 high. One was about 180 pounds wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt with white stripes and blue jeans, and the other was about 160 pounds wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Police urged anyone with information about the robbery to call them at 760-323-8115, or Valley Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
