While on patrol, a Lake Elsinore police officer noticed a black Honda maneuvering erratically near Riverside Drive and Lincoln Street.
The officer attempted to pull the car over, but the driver refused to stop and drove to his home, pulled into his driveway and surrendered to the officer, a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department release statement said.
Fifty-five year-old David Travers, of Lake Elsinore, was immediately arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, evading a peace officer and vehicle theft.
He was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in French Valley.
Court records show this isn’t the first time Travers has been arrested and convicted for driving under the influence.
“Drunk driving is a major cause of fatal and injury collisions each year,” Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Albert Martinez said. “The Riverside Sheriff’s Department seeks the public’s assistance in saving lives.”
He encouraged the public to call 911 immediately if a possible drunk driver is spotted or if someone is driving erratically.
Anyone who has additional information regarding this incident is urged to contact Deputy Yarbrough at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff Station at 951-245-3300.
