Out of 60,800 applicants, 22,947 were admitted as incoming freshmen.

Both figures rank as records, according to Mae Brown, assistant vice chancellor for admissions and enrollment services.

“We’re thrilled UC San Diego continues to attract many highly qualified and dynamic students,” she said. “Our students have made tremendous contributions to this campus, helping to establish UC San Diego as a world-renowned, academic powerhouse.”

More than 15,000 of those admitted are California residents, up about 11 percent from last year, according to UCSD.

The number of black students admitted totaled 510, up 29 percent from last year; while 852 Filipino students were accepted, up about 35 percent from 2011; and 119 Native Americans received admittance letters, up 49 percent from last year.
