Woman killed in collision near Winchester

A woman was killed today when her car slammed into the rear of a truck performing roadside maintenance near Winchester.

The fatal crash occurred around 2 p.m. on Domenigoni Parkway, just west of Warren Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 60-year-old Murrieta woman, whose name was not released, was driving her 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 west on the four-lane road when she apparently failed to see a Riverside County Department of Transportation vehicle moving slowly in front of her, said CHP Officer Darren Meyer.

The truck crew was spraying the center median as part of a weed abatement program.

According to Meyer, the Mercedes-Benz collided with the back end of the larger vehicle, killing the woman on impact.

The two men in the county vehicle suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment, Meyer said.

The crash investigation forced the closure of all westbound lanes of Domenigoni Parkway for three hours.

Alcohol or drugs has not been ruled out as a possible cause of the collision, Meyer said.
