Original story: A pedestrian wearing dark clothing and earphones was struck by a vehicle and killed in Lake Elsinore, police said today.
Officers dispatched about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday to Lake Street approximately one-half mile west of Interstate 15 found the victim down on the eastbound shoulder, said Lake Elsinore police Sgt. Marc Cloutier.
The victim, whose identity was being withheld pending family notification, suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
He was “clad in dark clothing, and is believed to have been wearing earbud headphones at the time of the collision,” Cloutier said.
The driver was not able to stop in time after spotting the pedestrian, Cloutier said.
The driver stopped after striking the victim and cooperated with investigating officers, he said.
Lake Street was closed for several hours after the crash.
